Moong Dal Tikki – Healthy Snacking


Ingredients – for the healthy snack Moong Dal Tikki
1 cup boiled moong (whole green gram)
1 tsp chopped ginger (adrak)
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cloves of garlic chopped
1 tsp lemon juice
1/2 cup chopped coriander (dhania)
2 pcs of bread
a pinch turmeric powder (haldi)
salt to taste
1/2 tsp garam masaala powder
1/2 tsp red chilly powder
oil for shallow frying
Preparation for Moong dal – Soak moong dal for about  30minutes. Pressure cook the soaked dal upto 3 whistles adding a pinch of turmeric  powder and a pinch of salt. From the boiled dal remove extra water if any and spread the boiled dal on a plate to cool.


Method – For the Tikkis


1. Combine the boiled moong with the rest of the ingredients viz. onion, garlic, ginger, chilly powder, garam masaala powder and salt to taste in a bowl, mix well
2. Add the lime juice and chopped corriander
3. Now moisten 2 bread pieces and mash into the above mixture to bind it well
4. Divide the mixture into equal portions and roll it into round balls. Keep aside, if possible refrigerate the tikkis for 15-20mins
5. Heat the oil in a pan and shallow fry the tikkis on low flame till it turns to golden brown in colour
6. Serve hot with chutney or sauce
